Fruity cocktails are my favorite.

And when I say “fruity,” I mean real fruit is right up in that drink.

Because then it counts as healthy.

Sort of. There is alcohol involved, after all.

But mostly the fruit aspect just tastes really nice, for lack of a better word.

Especially when the fruit is juicy, fresh, sweet, summery watermelon!

If you don’t like watermelon, then you probably have never enjoyed a good one.

Yeah they can tend to be flavorless.

Yeah they can tend to be mushy.

I understand, flavorless and mushy make cantaloupe seem like a much more attractive option.

But when you do come across a real watermelon…

Dive in face first then chill the rest to make a Watermleon Vodka Slush with a Hint of Lime.

Before I get into all that wonderfulness, let’s talk watermelon selection.

First, it must be summer.

In season is the only way to go concerning flavor. Always.

Second, try to buy organic.

Because organic tastes better. (To me at least, and no one will convince me otherwise!)

That’s stubbornness for yah.

Third, look for a watermelon that has a yellow underside.

Just do it. You want a ripe one.

Fourth, pick a heavy sucker. (Heavy for its size.)

Extra arm workout! Anddd you want a juicy one.

Fifth, tap it and listen for a hollow sound.

Because the Internet said so. I repeat, you want a perfectly ripe one.

Now that you have an impeccable watermelon, you’re ready for this:

Juicy, sweet watermelon, zesty lime, your dear friend vodka and refreshing crushed ice blend up to make one heck of a summer beverage.

P.S. Fellas, step outside of your beer comfort zone and sip this fruity pink drink like a real man.

P.P.S. Call it a smoothie and you’ve got breakfast. Ha.

P.P.S. Leave out the vodka for a kid-friendly version… or not.
