Introducing crispy tofu that’s slightly reminiscent of Cheetos!

Okay, maybe not Cheetos.

But it does have a nice subtle savory cheesy flavor not unlike many addictive, unhealthy snacks.

Thank you nutritional yeast!

Now don’t you run away quite yet just because the name itself sounds a little less than appetizing.

If you have no idea what the heck nutritional yeast is, let me tell you right now that it’s a powdery (vegan and gluten-free) substance that you can dump, er sprinkle on pretty much anything to make it edible.

Yeah, like cotton balls, cats and tofu.

(Just to clarify, tofu is already magnificent but nutritional yeast makes it even more fantastic.)

I guess the stuff is pretty healthy in a lot of ways too.

Which, I’m all about.

Because Cheetos, although tasty, are not something I care to indulge in on the regular.

And this tofu is pretty darn easy to make.

All you have to do is…

Mix together equal parts nutritional yeast and cornstarch then season your beautiful mixture with good ole S&P. Give your tofu slabs a nice toss in the powdery substance then fry em up good in a little tropical coconut oil. Fill a shallow bowl with protein-packed quinoa, then throw on your delightfully crispy tofu, shredded carrots, creamy avocado slices, sauteed zucchini and funky kimchi.

Ohh yeah.

So next time you’re craving Cheetos, Doritos, Fritos, or pretty much any snackage in the “itos” family, fry up some crispy tofu instead.

Or just inhale the itos when no one is watching and then whip up your tofu.

P.S. You can certainly use brown rice instead of quinoa, throw some more veggies in there, or even pass on the kimchi if it weirds you out. Skipping the nutritional yeast is out of the question though.

P.P.S. According to Wikipedia, nutritional yeast is sometimes referred to as “hippie dust.” Ha ha. Yes.

P.P.P.S. Nutritional yeast is kind of odoriferous, and kimchi is quite odoriferous. So please warn any unsuspecting individuals in the vicinity before their nostrils are hit. And then offer them a bite or two, of course.
